The Széchenyi Baths is one of Europe’s largest bathing complexes, and the only such complex found on the Pest side of Budapest. Originally there were only indoor medicinal baths starting from 1913, and the outdoor section was added 14 years later in 1927.
The Baths are large, grandiose and amazingly lit, the pools referencing the roman baths and greek baths, while the saunas and diving pools are influenced by the cultures of northern Europe.
The outdoor pools are actually open year-round, along of course with the ten separate pools inside. A host of medical treatments are also available. The thermal water filling each pool originates from natural springs and a 3,000-foot deep artesian well drilled in the 1870’s.The temperature of the water by nature is 165°F (74°C), which makes for comfortable outdoor bathing even in the winter.
